Lakeland Red Light Therapy
What is Red Light Therapy (RLT)?
What originally started as experiments by NASA in using red light therapy to stimulate plant growth in space moved to healing the astronauts’ wounds and has led to red light therapy being widely medically accepted as an effective form of photobiomodulation therapy.
Red light therapy, also called low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or low-power laser therapy (LPLT), utilizes a range of electromagnetic wavelengths to penetrate the skin and produce a biochemical effect in the cells that increase the function of the mitochondria (the cell “powerhouse”). This leads to a boost in the production of an energy carrying molecule, ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and with this boost in energy, cells can function more efficiently to repair damage and become healthier. And all of that microscopic magic leads to the healing of skin and muscle tissue.
The light waves that our lamps produce penetrate about 2 to 5 millimeters below the surface of the skin and while it does produce a warming low-level heat it doesn’t hurt, damage the skin, or expose you to harmful UV rays.
Benefits of Red Light Therapy
Because of red light therapy’s success with promoting wound healing, collagen building, and tissue repair, it’s been found to help with numerous skin issues including:
- Redness
- Scars & Stretch marks
- Acne
- Wrinkles and other signs of aging
- Burns
- UV sun damage
It can also be used to benefit more serious conditions including slow-healing wounds (like diabetic foot ulcers), psoriasis, prevention of recurring cold sores from herpes simplex virus infection, and even the side effects of chemotherapy.
Red light therapy has been found to reduce pain and morning stiffness in people with rheumatoid arthritis. One study found red light therapy was able to cut osteoarthritis-related pain by more than 50 percent. Some studies have also suggested that red light therapy can help with the short-term treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and improve hair growth for people who live with androgenic alopecia.
You’ll find many red light therapy products for sale on the internet. Most of them are safe to use but may be less powerful due to using a lower wavelength frequency and you may not get the expected results. Our lamps are custom made according to our exact wavelength specifications to ensure the highest quality and maximum results.
